Ebert on Oprah, in Esquire
by Kiko Matsing
It has been nearly four years since Roger Ebert lost his lower jaw and his ability to speak. Now television’s most famous movie critic is rarely seen and never heard, but his words have never stopped.
On Tuesday, film critic Roger Ebert will go on “Oprah” for a much anticipated interview. Ebert has been voiceless for almost four years, following surgery in 2002 to remove a cancerous thyroid, which left Ebert without a jaw.
I was astonished to see Roger Ebert’s photos after his cancer surgeries that left him without a jaw. His face looks so unrecognizable. I hate to say disfigured, but that’s what it is. That’s what cancer is.
I admire his courage.
