San Sebastian

Quiapo, Manila (2007)

Tired of fires and earthquakes, the Augustinian Recollects built this gothic revival church made of steel panels pre-fabricated in Belgium, shipped by sea in eight installments, and assembled in Manila.

The steel retablo (altar) was lost at sea, so a wooden one was built in its place. The base resembles the hull of a ship that would sway during an earthquake (Wikipedia).
