The last of the carrozas in Filipino Holy Week processions, no matter how long, carries the Mater Dolorosa–the Mother of Sorrows. It depicts a tearful Mary bearing a bleeding heart stabbed with seven daggers representing the seven sorrows in her life. Besides the Crucifixion, it is one of the most powerful and beloved of Catholic iconography.
