This photo was taken at Mines View Park in Baguio City back in the late 1980s. I looked dorky in an ill-fitting denim jacket, stone washed jeans, and penny loafers. My sister looked tom-boyish in that cocky pose. She was into all types of sports; I stuck with my books.
I love the way my kid brother leans on my mother in this photo. He was very shy even then. My mother’s Ob-Gyn never told her he has Down’s Syndrome; it was her sister–a nurse in Canada–who noticed it and did. We understood, and loved him even more.
