Bearcloud is a Native American artist of the Southwest. His palette is the warm pastels of Remington and Russel, figurative painters of the Old West, but his vision is cosmic and psychedelic. His style is both surrealist and iconographic in the manner of Salvador Dali and Frida Khalo, but not perverse nor self-mutilating.

His subjects are instead the experience of Nature as sublime and vital. It is both terrifying in its vastness and grandeur, but also quiet and intimate, animated by familiar spirits. His cloud and rock formations are literally inspired–breathed upon by the spirits of animals and ancestors.

His art fits the syncretic New Age spirituality that thrives in the remote spa resorts and hippie enclaves of the Southwest.
